LOCKER ROOMs: many more around

Recently the “Bois Locker Room” case created a shock wave on social media. A group of teenagers aged 16-17 years were the members of private Instagram group of the same name. It has shed light on the toxic masculinity and sexual-harassment even among school going teens.

It’s not about “bois locker room” or “girls locker room”, it’s about the content which is sharing on social media, youngster’s mental map, emotional intelligence, family values, companionship etc.

The age group of 13-25 years is very crucial not only on career basis but also on the moral basis. Actually, in our country education is somewhere misguided as only career education that’s why we give more emphasis on that. Hence somehow, somewhere we lag moral and value education.
Despite of lot of knowledge, engineering, medical and law students are also indulged in these kinds of activities. So, on this basis should majority of the degree holders be treated as illiterate? This itself puts a big question mark on our education system & also on the family’s role in the upbringing of a child.

It’s an irony that “The country where sex-education is considered a taboo is producing the highest population of the world”. We need to impose the stringent laws of IT Act 2008 & IPC on culprits. But this judicial punishment is not the only solution; we need to find the reason behind their mental-map on long run.

Historically, India is a land of “culture”, “values” and “morals”. It gave rise to 4 major religions of the world. But now these values are degrading from these kinds of activities. It’s said that “youth is the future of country” but it should be corrected as “Educated youth is the future of any country”.
Hence, we need to look after our children by giving them proper moral values from their early age and also the school education must give equal emphasis on the same. Gender-Disparity should be brought down and strict laws must be treated as power safeguarding our nation and many more laws should be revised. Most importantly “Sex- Education should not be treated as taboo anymore”.

At last, this incident puts few major questions on us –
  •  Is Cinema complicit in promoting toxicity and rape culture?
  • Can we do anything under the head of “Right to privacy” & “Freedom of expression”.
  • Is the adult age: 18 sufficient to do and watch anything? Despite of knowing that major crimes are from 18-24 age groups.
  • Content on internet can’t be strictly monitored?
  • Family role in upbringing of child?
  • Education policy sufficient with present aspect?
  • Moral education can’t be created attractive?

Do think.
