Do Tech-Giants really care about Women Empowerment ?
On the occasion of 75th anniversary of United Nations (UN), intellectuals from all over the world gathered to discuss on the most elementary and biggest problems the world is facing today. And their biggest concern was GENDER GAP.
Gender Inequality is the most trending issue that must be addressed in the right direction by the right organisation that majorly works at ground level for this. Few of the key steps that must be focused are: Quality elementary education, Women Safety, providing them Employment Opportunities and most importantly changing the moral and ethical attitude of society.
With regard of this, recently I have seen many big US tech-giant companies launching women specific roles and programmes. It may seem that yeahhh they are focusing on providing Employment opportunities and that's good too. But is that really what it looks like?
In a personal conversation with the Director of Oracle Cloud India, I was curious and asked "What does your company play a role in CSR activities?" I was stunned by their answer. They replied "Who wants to do that? We are here for profit". And on the other hand we see them working on regional women empowerment. Isn't that strange?
Few of the key possibilities for this are:
1. This could be a big conspiracy of these MNC's to divide the country on gender basis like in history it was done by Britishers on the name of Hindus and Muslims. Atleast my knowledge on International diplomacy forced me to think about this.
2. This could be their profit strategy too, since they all are capitalists and they are always in competition with each other to bring their company at top with highest turnover.
3. As we all are aware of the psychological impact of Social media, pornography and violent PUBG games on country's youth mind. This could be the one of next few steps in that direction.
4. Most Important: Might be they actually want to work for women empowerment. And then this will only be like the reservation system in India where only 5% needy gets the real benefit and the privileged section takes away the other 95%. If this is so, then I think they are intelligent enough to learn from the drawbacks of present prevailing system of reservation in India and bring some useful changes in their model.
1 major concern: This is creating a rift between the adults of both sexes.
Our country is so much already diverse that an extra community specific demands can collapse the whole system. We live in a country where the political parties win entire election on just small issues like: "I will give you 10% extra reservation", "I will give you extra water", "I will raise the MSP for farmers", "I will work for dalits", etc etc. This is frankly not the sign of superpower. If we really want to see the example of superpower, see the US elections where whole result is dependent on International dynamics.
Till the time we will be shouting out loud "Jai Maharashtra", "Jai Bihar", "Incredible Gujarat", "Men vs Women", "Dalit vs Brahmins", "Shias vs Sunnis" and "Hindus vs Muslims", till then the value of "Incredible India" and "Unity in Diversity" cannot be achieved.
So, it's high time to think with a bigger canvas and the intentions accordingly, otherwise these capitalists and politicians will keep on exploiting ourselves.
