2020: Why not so hot?

Year 2020 was predicted to be the hottest year of the century for the entire world. In this February, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) too warned that this summer will be the hotter by an average of above 1 degree Celsius than normal. And according to the prediction, world is experiencing its hotness day by day. Antarctica recorded its highest temperature till date.

But, in India inverse to the prediction, the average temperature recorded was 5 degree Celsius less than the normal. In northern India, frequent thunderstorms and rainfall got recorded in the month of May; even few states also received heavy snowfall.

So, have you ever wondered what could be the reasons for this –

Is it because of Western Disturbance? But it is an annual phenomenon usually occurs in Jan- March.
But still in the month of May, it is showing its influence. HOW?

Atlantic Multi-Decadal Oscillation:
The Atlantic Multi-Decadal Oscillation is a climate cycle that affects the sea surface temperature of North Atlantic Ocean based on different modes on multidecadal timescales. Currently it’s hot and it will be for few decades. Many scientists believe that its hotness further strengthens the influence of western disturbance of Mediterranean region.

We must also agree that in this climate change, global warming is also playing its major role. Hence this cyclic feature + global warming is in turn affecting our seasonal cycle.
Since, Indian monsoon is so much dependent on summers. So this relief for us could harm our agricultural balance as well.
